Discover the coastal path during your stay at the campsite
The coastal path offers 25 kilometers of breathtaking scenery from Bidart to Hendaye (and on to San Sebastian).
From the Espelette campsite, it’s a 30-minute drive to Bidart to join the coastal pathway along the Basque coast. However, if you don’t want to do the whole route, you can go directly to Saint-Jean-de-Luz , halfway along the way.
The first part of the trail starts in Bidart and ends 13 km further on at Pointe de Sainte-Barbe. An opportunity to discover the beaches, coves and paths that line the Basque country during a 3h30 walk.
The second part, 12 km long, takes you to Hendaye beach in a 2-hour walk.
Along your walk, you’ll find explanatory panels at the St Joseph chapel in Bidart and on the Quai de la Nivelle in Ciboure.
The entire trail covers some 20 km, which can be extended.
Experienced walkers can continue to San Sebastian, close to the Spanish border.
How to prepare your departure from the campsite for the coastal path?
1. Prepare your equipment: whether you choose to follow the coastal path from Bidart to Hendaye, or only part of it, the right equipment is essential. So remember to bring walking shoes, water and a small garbage can for your garbage. if the weather’s fine, a cap and sun cream.
2. Know where to start and how to get back: before you set off on the 25 km trail and its 7-hour hike, remember to plan your outward and return journey, which can be made by train or bus.
3. Find out about the weather: depending on the forecast, take along a cap, sun cream, sweater, etc.
